Controller Holding[]
By holding your controller in a certain way, you can cast Power-up spells much more quickly as opposed to doing it with a single thumb. Bear in mind that some of these techniques may cause hand cramping if you are not accustomed to it, so please be careful when attempting them.
Crab Claw[]
The Crab Claw controller hold requires you to remove your right hand from the gamepad and position it so that your palm is horizontal and facing the buttons, making your fingers and thumb appear in the shape of a crab's claw. This way, you can use your middle and index fingers in a drumming motion. However, you may need to tighten your grip on your left hand or place the controller on a flat surface for stabilization.
This method is most recommended for large and connected controllers, such as the XBox Wireless Controller.
Follow these steps:
- Tighten your grip on your left hand.
- Move your right hand so that your palm is horizontal and facing the controller.
- Place your middle finger on the top face button.
- Place your index finger on the bottom face button.
- When you are done incanting, let your right hand grip the controller normally again.
Thumb Shift Hold[]
The Thumb Shift controller hold requires you to move your left thumb onto the right side of the controller, essentially shifting your thumb's position. By having both thumbs temporarily on the face buttons, you can maintain your grip on the controller while still casting spells quickly.
This method is most recommended for small and unconnected controllers, such as Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons, but it is also possible to do this with larger controllers by placing your left hand at the top of the controller instead.
Follow these steps (for Joy-Cons):
- Push your left Joy-Con towards your right Joy-Con.
- Place your left thumb onto the top face button.
- Place your right thumb onto the bottom face button.
- When you are done incanting, rest your Joy-Cons back in your regular position.
Follow these steps (for larger controllers):
- Tighten your grip on your right hand.
- Move your left hand so that your palm is nearly gripping the top of the controller.
- Place your left thumb onto the top face button. Your thumb will be pointing horizontally.
- Place your right thumb onto the bottom face button.
- When you are done incanting, let your left hand grip the controller normally again.
"Stand on the Caster" Technique[]
The "Stand on the Caster" Technique is a technique that speeds up party spellcasting time by communicating to all party members to "stand on top of", or stand in the same position as, the Witch. When doing this, a casted buff intended for only the Witch can be given to all party members at once.
- This technique works because these types of spells give buffs to the Witch AND to any allies currently within her hitbox.
- By doing this, the Witch does not need to cast the Homing spell.
- This is especially helpful at the beginnings of quests, during the delays on Teleportation Glyphs, and right before Boss Gates.
- The Witch can cast several Status Boost spells, Regen spells, Powered-Up Cure Ailment spells, etc. in a short amount of time.
"Feeder Spells"[]
Spell | Button Input | Graphic |
---|---|---|
Homing Fire | A A A A B Y B X B A | |
Homing Thunder | B B B B B Y B X B A | |
Homing Ice | X X X X B Y B X B A |
"Feeder Spells" are spells that are casted before initiating Dragon Surge, which causes the DP consumption to offset while you are in the Dragon Surge beginning animation (the duration of which you cannot move).[1]
- This technique requires quick spell inputs. As such, it is recommended to utilize one of the above Controller Holding techniques to speed up the spellcasting process.
For example, a typical Dragon Surge round on a full DP bar allows Witch to cast 6 Condense Thunder spells. However, by casting Homing Ice, activating Dragon Surge, then quickly casting Condense Thunder, Witch can cast 7 Condense Thunder spells instead.[1]
