The Astral Dragon Atruum (古龍「アトゥルム」 Koryu "Aturum", Gǔlóng "Ato~urumu", Old Dragon "Atruum", Ancient Dragon "Atruum") is the guardian deity of the Dragonblood Clan in Dragon Marked For Death.
Overview (Artbook)[1][]
Atruum is one of the dragon's army.
Mortally injured in the battle with the Celestial Primatis, He entrusted what little life He had left to the Dragonblood Clan before collapsing. Atruum's soul (= heart?) is enshrined in the deep altar of the Den (aka "Cave of the Ancient Dragon") in the hometown of the Dragonblood Clan.
Atruum lost His body, but His power remains, albeit a small amount. In return for the Dragonblood Clan's offering of livestock and crops in the Den, He fulfills their wishes with blessings such as successful hunting and bountiful harvests, depending on the contents of their offerings.
As a result, the Dragonblood Clan praises Atruum as a guardian dragon.

In reality, Atruum, who learned that the Celestial gained souls through "faith / religion," simply imitated Him.
The true purpose of Atruum is to have the Dragonblood Clan collect more souls to resurrect Himself and take control of the continent of Remlia, where the gods have left for the divine world.
Existence of the Astral Dragons (Artbook)[2][]
Like Celestials, Astral Dragons are higher-order beings and are basically invisible to humans.
Most of the Astral Dragons have been defeated by the Celestials or are in a dormant state. Only Atruum interferes with the human world through the Dragonblood Clan and its Oracle.
Although they are a life form similar to the Celestials in that they feed on the souls of all things, at the time of their creation, the Astral Dragons obtained their souls not through "faith" but through direct predatory behavior, i.e. destructive activity (= unproductive).
When Atruum learned that the Celestials obtain souls through "faith", He left behind a family of Dragonbloods just before His body was about to decay, and by making them believe in Him as a guardian dragon, He survived at least only as a soul. The Astral Dragons also do not destroy with malicious intent, but only act as a means of sustaining life.
In the game, the protagonist is a member of the Dragonblood Clan, whose guardian deity is the ancient dragon Atruum, one of the Astral Dragon's army.
